To an extent, the bias against the inclusion of video games in classrooms is reasonable. Attention is a currency too high for many young students to pay. Bringing computer games into classrooms can distract students and defeat the purpose of learning. The notion that most video games support violence is a legit one. Not all high school students are affected by violent video games, but some are.
While it is true that games like Computer Chess, Puzzles, and Quizzes can help children develop high STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills, the positive impact of video games on high schoolers and college students remains unestablished. How does playing Minecraft help a medical student become better in the clinical theater? How does Animal Jam help College students become better zoologists?
Playing computer games during a class is a great idea as long as the game is educational, relevant to the curriculum, and monitored by the teacher.
